felt christmas tree

One thing I've learned is that you can always make a plan but it doesn't mean its going to follow through. Our holiday plans were to fly down to Alabama to celebrate the Christmas and New Years with our family. Unfortunately, I had to get some minor surgery done last week, so all is out the window. Instead, it'll just be the three of us here in LA due to the awkward "Christmas on a Wednesday" thing. I just feel so blessed that I have my husband and our little boy to spend the holiday with. Since we were initially planning to be away, we had no intentions to decorate or put up a tree. Feeling like we needed a little something, I decided to make a simple tree to make our humble home a bit more festive.

here are some materials you'll need:

  • 1-24"x36" green posterboard
  • 1/2 yard 60" green felt
  • green thread
  • fabric scissors
  • green thread
  • hot glue gun and hot glue
  1. make a cone  shape with the posterboard and glue the seam with hot glue.
  2. cute the green felt up into 2"x4" rectangles. then cut them into leaf shapes. (I stacked a few pieces at a time to get through the cutting faster.)
  3. {optional} sew a stem pattern down the middles of each leaf. (I sewed them together like a garland then cut them apart.)
  4. starting from the bottom of the cone, hot glue the leaves onto the cone.
  5. decorate as you wish. (I used some felt to make a start and circular ornaments and glued them on, then sprinkled glitter all over).
